Patna: A 50-year-old rural health officer was shot dead while working in a field in Patna’s Pipra area on Saturday, in what marks yet another violent incident in Bihar’s capital this month.

The victim, identified as Surendra Kumar, was attacked in Sheikhpura village late in the evening while tending to his agricultural land. Villagers reported hearing gunshots, and Kumar was found lying unconscious with a bullet wound when police arrived at the scene.

Masaurhi sub-divisional police officer Kanhaiya Singh said Kumar was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. His body has been sent for postmortem, and an investigation is underway.

The incident follows a spate of killings in Patna in recent days. On Thursday, a 50-year-old sand mining businessman was shot dead outside his home in the Ranitalab area. Earlier, on July 4, prominent industrialist Gopal Khemka was killed outside his residence on a busy road in the city.
