Patna: The Bihar State Pollution Control Board (BSPCB) has levied a substantial environmental compensation of Rs 1,09,60,000 (Rupees One Crore Nine Lakh Sixty Thousand) on M/S Toshiba Water Solutions Pvt. Ltd. and EMS Infracon-IV, the operators of the Saidpur Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Patna.

The fine was imposed due to the companies’ failure to maintain the required quality standards for treated sewage discharged from the 60 million liters per day (MLD) capacity plant. The BSPCB’s regular assessments revealed consistent breaches in sewage treatment quality between October 2023 and June 2024.

The Saidpur STP, established to treat domestic effluent from Patna city, is operated and maintained by the aforementioned companies under a contract with the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO).

The BSPCB said in a statement that regular monitoring of all operational STPs in Bihar is conducted to safeguard public health and protect the environment.
