Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday conducted an on-site inspection of two major road projects in Nalanda district, aimed at improving access to Rajgir — one of the state’s most significant religious and tourist destinations.
The first site visit was to the Salepur–Narsanda–Telmar–Karauta corridor, which will connect State Highway 78 (Bihta–Sarmera) to National Highway 30 near Jagdamba Sthan. This alternative route is set for a major upgrade, with the road slated to be expanded to four lanes to ease traffic congestion and reduce travel time for commuters and pilgrims alike.
CM Nitish then turned his attention to the proposed four-lane Buddha Circuit road stretching from Salepur to Rajgir. Currently a two-lane passage, this road is a central element in the state’s infrastructure push to enhance regional connectivity and spiritual tourism. Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the proposed alignment, which includes the construction of an elevated section at railway crossings to prevent traffic disruptions.
Inspecting locations including Salepur turn, Chauhan turn, Beldaripar and Noorsarai, CM Nitish directed officials to ensure both speed and quality in implementation. He emphasised that the completed roads would not only streamline travel but also serve as vital links for economic activity and cultural exchange in the region.
Accompanying the Chief Minister were senior officials, including Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar, and Additional Chief Secretary of the Road Construction Department Mihir Kumar Singh. District magistrates of Patna and Nalanda were also present, underlining the coordinated effort to fast-track infrastructure that supports Bihar’s broader tourism and development goals.
