Patna to Get New Four-Lane Road on Serpentine Nala to Ease Traffic Congestion

Patna: A new four-lane road will be constructed in Patna by covering the serpentine drain from the eastern end of Rajdhani Vatika to Atal Path, aiming to improve traffic flow in the city. Additionally, the existing road from Patel Golambar to the western end of Rajdhani Vatika, popularly known as, Eco Park, will be widened to enhance connectivity. The project is expected to facilitate movement to and from key locations, including the Secretariat, Rajdhani Vatika, and the airport.

Following an announcement during Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Pragati Yatra, officials from the Bihar State Road Development Corporation have begun planning the road’s construction. The project, spanning two sections—from Patel Golambar to the western end of Eco Park and from the eastern end of Eco Park to Atal Path—will cover a total length of 860 metres and have a width of 14 metres. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 183.30 crore.

The decision to construct the road by filling the serpentine drain is also expected to address the issue of encroachment in the area. Authorities have already launched a campaign to clear the encroached land along the drain. Once completed, the new road will provide an alternative route to Harding Road, easing congestion and improving overall traffic management in the city.
