Patna Women’s College Celebrates Independence Day, Honours Homemakers and Tribal Contributions
Patna: Patna Women’s College hosted a special program on Wednesday at the Veronica Auditorium to mark the 78th Independence Day. The event, themed “Bharat ke Swatantrata Sangram Mein Janjaatiyon ka Yogdaan,” paid tribute to the invaluable contributions of homemakers—celebrated as the nation’s unsung builders.
The program commenced with a heartfelt performance of “Bharat Vandana” by the students, setting a patriotic tone for the day. Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C., Principal of Patna Women’s College (PWC), extended a warm welcome to the homemakers in attendance. She lauded their tireless efforts and unwavering dedication to shaping both society and the nation. In a gesture of gratitude, Dr. Sister Rashmi honoured the homemakers with shawls, acknowledging their crucial role in the fabric of India.
Following this, the homemakers shared their personal reflections, expressing gratitude to the Principal and the college for its commitment to quality education and discipline. Dr. Vinita Priyedarshi, Head of the Department of Political Science, addressed the gathering, highlighting the significant role of the tribal community and women in India’s freedom struggle. She emphasized the importance of homemakers in the ongoing journey towards establishing India as a global leader.
The event featured a series of cultural performances, including a stirring rendition of the patriotic song “Jantu Janni” and the recital of a self-composed poem by students. These presentations poignantly depicted the contributions of women freedom fighters from across India, many of whom remain unknown to the broader world. A thematic presentation followed, showcasing the vital role of the tribal community in India’s fight for independence.
In her closing remarks, Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C. expressed her gratitude to the Department of Political Science, the participants, cultural coordinators, and all those who contributed to the event’s success. She offered special thanks to the homemakers for being an integral part of the day’s celebrations.
The event was expertly moderated by Ayushi Arya, Shubha Pandey, and Shaily Singh from the Department of Political Science. Fiza Darakshan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science, delivered the vote of thanks. The program was organized by the Department of Political Science, with cultural coordination by Dr. Sister Celine Crasta A.C., Head of the Department of History, Enakshi Dey Biswas, Coordinator of Performing Arts, and Puja Kumari, Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce.
