Patna Women’s College Celebrates World Population Day with Enthusiastic Student Participation
Patna: Patna Women’s College marked World Population Day on July 11, 2024, with a series of events organized by various departments, showcasing the students’ creativity and engagement on topics related to population and sustainability.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) hosted a speech competition at the Mother Veronica Excellence and Innovation Centre on the topic “India’s Youthful Population is an Asset for the Country.” Eight students from different departments participated, presenting diverse viewpoints. The event, attended by 56 NSS volunteers, was judged by Dr. Shahla Rehana and Dr. Prabhat Jha, Assistant Professors from the Department of English. Alisha Verma from Sociology secured first place, Shalini Singh from Hindi came second, and Ayushi Singh from Political Science took third. The event was moderated by Sakshi, Joint General Secretary, and Stuti Singh, Environment and Discipline Secretary of the Student Council for 2024-25. Dr. Shahla Rehana presented the vote of thanks.
In collaboration with the Department of Zoology, the ECO Task Force organized a slogan writing competition on the theme “The Future We Want: Population and Sustainability.” A total of 144 students, in 72 pairs, participated enthusiastically. The jury, consisting of Dr. Sapna Kumari, Dr. Neetu, and Mr. Rajeev Ranjan, Assistant Professors from the Department of Zoology, awarded the first prize to Deepika Shree and Akanksha Chaturvedi. Sargam Verma and Amisha Kumari, along with Arya Shri and Raj Nandani, secured the second position. The third place went to Aaradhya Sinha and Kumari Aditi Singh Rathore, and Vaidehi Jha and Aishwarya Saluja. A consolation prize was given to Jiya Singh and Apurva Nayan. The event was supervised by Dr. Shobha Shrivastava, Head of the Department of Zoology and Vice President of the ECO Task Force, with all department teachers and support staff present.
The Department of Geography organized an inter-class debate competition on “Role of Education in Managing Population Growth: Effective or Overrated.” Seventeen students from Semesters III and V participated, presenting their arguments on the topic. The jury included Dr. Nupur Sinha, Head of the Department of Psychology; Dr. Apurba Paul, Assistant Professor from the Department of English; and Dr. Awadhesh Kumar, Assistant Professor from the Department of Geography. The results will be announced soon. The debate was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Amrita Chowdhury, Head of the Department of Geography.
