Patna: Patna Women’s College  (PWC) celebrated its Founder’s Day on Tuesday. The event was a vibrant homage to the college’s legacy, beginning with a symbolic presentation of plant saplings to the distinguished guests, followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp. The ceremony honored the institution’s founder, Bishop B.J. Sullivan, S.J., with Rt. Reverend Sebastian Kallupura, Archbishop of Patna Archdiocese, leading the tribute.

The celebration commenced with a prayer dance, setting a reverent tone, followed by a warm welcome song for the assembled guests. Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C., Principal of PWC, addressed the gathering, underscoring Bishop Sullivan’s pivotal role in the college’s foundation. She extended a heartfelt welcome to the esteemed guests, including Rt. Reverend Sebastian Kallupura, Dr. Sister Reema A.C., Provincial Superior of Apostolic Carmel, Northern Province; Dr. Sister Maria Kirti A.C., Councilor for Education, Apostolic Carmel, Northern Province; Dr. Sister M. Jincy A.C., Superior of Avila Convent, and Reverend Father Reni Prakash, Secretary to the Archbishop.

The cultural segment of the program featured a traditional Kajri folk dance performed to the song “Khetwa Mein Sohe Kisan Ho,” capturing the essence of Bihar’s rich cultural heritage. This was followed by a thematic dance focused on women’s empowerment, resonating with the college’s mission to uplift and educate women.

 

In his address, Archbishop Kallupura extended his best wishes on Founder’s Day, commending the PWC community for its remarkable achievement in securing an A++ grade from NAAC, making it the first college in Bihar to reach this milestone. He lauded the unwavering dedication and sacrifices of the Sisters of the Apostolic Carmelite order, whose support has been instrumental in the college’s success. He also acknowledged the hard work of the faculty and staff, whose efforts have significantly contributed to the college’s improved NIRF ranking.

The event, meticulously organized by cultural coordinators Dr. Sister Celine Crasta A.C., Head of the Department of History; Enakshi Dey Biswas, Coordinator of Performing Arts, and Puja Kumari, Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce, was smoothly moderated by students Ayushi Arya and Shreya Ghoshal. The celebration concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Srishti Singh, Cultural Secretary of the Student Council for 2024-25, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the day’s success.
