Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation hosted a vibrant Kite Festival on Monday at Ghat No. 93 in Digha, aiming to promote cleanliness and sustainability in the city. The event, held under the chairmanship of Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary, saw the presence of Urban Development Minister Nitin Naveen, Digha MLA Sanjeev Chaurasia, Kumhrar MLA Arun Kumar Sinha, Patna Mayor Sita Sahu, Deputy Mayor Reshmi Chandravanshi, Departmental Secretary Abhay Singh, and Municipal Commissioner Animesh Parashar. The dignitaries inaugurated the festival by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Chief Minister Choudhary lauded the city’s progress in cleanliness initiatives. “Patna is moving rapidly towards cleanliness, and for this, I congratulate Minister Nitin Naveen and the Urban Development Department. The festival of Basant Panchami is deeply connected with kite flying, and through this event, we are sending a message of cleanliness and the beauty of Patna,” he said.

Echoing this sentiment, Minister Nitin Naveen emphasised the festival’s role in raising awareness about sanitation. “This event follows the principles of 3R – Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle. The Urban Development and Housing Department is working diligently to enhance Patna’s ranking in Swachh Survekshan 2025. From now on, the Kite Festival will be celebrated annually, spanning from Makar Sankranti to Basant Panchami, with a pledge to cleanliness,” he stated. He further highlighted the collective effort required to achieve the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission.

The festival witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, volunteers, and citizens of all ages. Local artists delivered captivating performances, while awareness activities on waste segregation and recycling were conducted to encourage public participation in keeping the city clean and beautiful.

As Patna strives for a cleaner and more sustainable future, the Kite Festival has now become an annual tradition, reinforcing the commitment to sanitation and environmental consciousness.
