Patna’s Largest Medicine Market Shuts in Protest Against Pahalgam Terror Attack

Patna: The largest medicine market in Bihar, located on GM Road in Patna, remained completely shut on Saturday in protest against the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The strike was called by the Chemist and Druggist Association to express solidarity with the victims of the attack, which claimed the lives of 28 people.

Around 1,000 wholesale and retail medicine shops participated in the shutdown, bringing the daily pharmaceutical trade worth nearly Rs 20 crore to a halt. Association President Arjun Yadav stated that the closure was a mark of respect for the innocent lives lost and to send a strong message against terrorism.

A condolence meeting was held at the Association’s office, where members observed a two-minute silence. Later in the day, a tribute ceremony was organised to honour the victims. Yadav condemned the attack, stressing that Indians stand united against violence and religious hatred.

The protest was part of a wider national response, with several major markets across India, including more than 900 in Delhi, also observing shutdowns. In Delhi alone, the one-day strike led to an estimated trade loss of Rs 1,500 crore.

The Chemist and Druggist Association has urged the government to take strict action against those responsible and ensure better protection for citizens across the country.
