Patna’s Underground Subway to Open in April Following Security Audits

Patna : The much-anticipated underground subway near Patna Junction is set to commence operations in April, pending a rigorous three-stage security audit by a Swiss firm. The final phases of construction and inspection are currently underway, with most civil and mechanical work nearing completion.
Enhanced Connectivity with Three Entry Points
In a significant development, authorities have decided to expand the subway’s connectivity, linking it to the proposed metro station. This will provide three access points: the Multi-Modal Hub, Buddha Smriti Park, and the new metro station entrance. Additionally, pedestrian tracks are being laid near Mahavir Mandir to improve accessibility.
Final Stages of Construction and Safety Checks
The 440-meter-long subway, with 110 meters running underground, is in its last phase of construction. While one stage of inspection has been completed, two more security audits remain, along with mandatory approvals from state government departments for fire safety, building regulations, and electrical infrastructure. The subway will open only after all necessary clearances are obtained.
Escalating Costs Amid New Features
Initially estimated at Rs68.85 crore, the project’s cost was later revised to Rs84.83 crore. With additional features integrated into the design, the latest budget projection stands at Rs131 crore. The revised estimate has been sent to Patna Smart City for approval, though it has yet to receive a final nod.
