Patna: The Department of Pediatrics at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna organised a workshop on paediatric electroencephalography (EEG) on Sunday, aimed at improving the diagnosis of brain disorders in children.

Around 50 participants attended the training session, where Dr Praveen Kumar, head and senior consultant at the Department of Pediatric Neurology, Institute of Child Health, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi, provided hands-on instruction on EEG techniques. Dr Kumar highlighted that EEG in children differs from that of adults and can be crucial in diagnosing not only epilepsy but also conditions affecting mentally challenged children.

Speaking at the event, IGIMS director Dr Bindey Kumar stressed the importance of such workshops to simplify the use of EEG in paediatric cases and enhance early detection of neurological disorders. Medical superintendent Dr Manish Mandal said that postgraduate students must acquire this specialised knowledge to better manage paediatric brain disease cases.

Head of the Pediatrics Department, Dr Jayant Prakash, announced that similar workshops would continue to be organised to strengthen clinical expertise. The organising secretary for the event was Dr Rizwan Ahmar, and the workshop saw the participation of key faculty members including Dr Rakesh Kumar, Dr Anand Kumar Gupta, Dr Amit Kumar, Dr Manish Kumar, Dr Sunil Kishore and Dr Shambhavi Sharan.

Senior officials including Dean Dr Om Kumar also attended the programme.
