Patna: Construction of the permanent headquarters of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in Bihta, Patna, is nearing its final stages, with completion targeted for July 2025. Situated on a 25-acre plot in Dilawarpur, the state of the art facility is being built by the Building Construction Department at a cost of Rs 287.52 crore.
The expansive complex will serve as both the administrative hub and a national-level training centre for disaster management. Most of the major buildings within the campus including the administrative block, quartermaster store, barracks, officers’ mess, sub-ordinate officers’ mess, commandant and deputy commandant residences, housing for head constables, constables and followers, hostel, dining hall, quick response team (QRT) building, and the training block are already complete.
In addition to these, construction of a modern auditorium-cum-fitness centre, doctor’s residence, and housing for inspectors and sub-inspectors is progressing rapidly. A national-level swimming pool is also being developed specifically to enhance flood relief training and disaster management capabilities of SDRF personnel.
Kumar Ravi, Secretary of the Building Construction Department, confirmed that most structures within the campus are complete and that all remaining work is expected to finish by July. “This project will significantly strengthen Bihar’s disaster preparedness. We are conducting regular inspections and monitoring to ensure quality and timely execution,” he said.
Currently, the SDRF headquarters operates temporarily from Dilawarpur in Bihta. Due to the lack of a dedicated training centre, personnel have had to travel to other states for training, leading to delays and increased resource expenditure. The new facility will eliminate these issues, enabling swift and effective response to disasters.
Beyond serving as a professional training facility for SDRF personnel, the centre also aims to engage and train local communities in disaster response, further elevating Bihar’s preparedness at the grassroots level.
This initiative represents a strategic step forward in building a resilient Bihar capable of responding promptly and efficiently to natural and man-made disasters.
