Petrol and Diesel Prices Rise in Bihar as Global Oil Becomes Costlier

Fuel prices in Bihar are increasing slowly due to rising international crude oil rates caused by the Iran-Israel conflict.

Patna: Petrol and diesel prices have gone up in several cities across Bihar. This change is happening because the price of crude oil in the international market has risen quickly after the Iran-Israel conflict began on 13 June. In just two days, crude oil prices went up by more than 12%. Oil companies in India are now slowly passing this increase on to customers.

In cities like Patna, Bhagalpur, and Purnia, petrol prices have seen a small rise. For example, petrol in Bhagalpur now costs ₹106.63 per litre and diesel ₹92.78. In Muzaffarpur, petrol is ₹106.06 per litre — an increase of ₹0.08 from the previous day. In Purnia, petrol has become costlier at ₹106.77 and diesel at ₹92.91. Meanwhile, Gaya saw no change in fuel rates. These small changes show that oil companies are raising prices step by step while still using their stored fuel in some places.

Globally, the price of crude oil has gone up sharply. On 14 June, US oil reached $76.61 per barrel, while UK Brent crude rose to $77.77. In India’s commodity market (MCX), oil was priced at ₹6,295 per barrel, compared to ₹5,798 just two days earlier. Experts believe if the global tension continues, fuel prices in India may increase more in the coming weeks.

Petrol and diesel rates in India are updated every day at 6 am by public oil companies like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum. On 15 June, the price of petrol in Patna rose to ₹105.75 and diesel to ₹91.98. In big cities like Delhi and Mumbai, prices remained mostly the same, but small changes were noticed in places like Lucknow and Noida. If the global oil crisis continues, more price hikes are likely across the country.
