PMC Cracks Down on Illegal Building Works as Civic Body Flags Unapproved Constructions

Six civic teams in Patna will probe 234 building applications amid growing concerns over unauthorised construction without map approval.

Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a city-wide crackdown on unauthorised constructions, forming six specialised teams to investigate whether buildings are being erected without the mandatory map approval.

As of now, 234 applications for map clearance have been received from across Patna’s six municipal zones—Patliputra, Nutan Rajdhani, Kankarbagh, Bankipur, Patna City and Azimabad. Officials suspect that many applicants may have already begun construction without awaiting the necessary permissions.

The newly constituted teams, under the Urban Planning Branch and the Executive Officers of respective zones, will carry out on-site inspections and verify compliance. Each site visit will include geo-tagged photography to ensure transparency. If any discrepancy or premature construction is detected, the map approval process will be halted immediately.

The PMC has made the map approval process accessible through an online AutoMap system, where applications are reviewed before permission is granted. The civic body has warned of strict action against those who withhold information or violate building by-laws.
