PMC’s Pre-Monsoon Drain Cleanup Drive Intensifies to Combat Waterlogging

Patna: Patna’s municipal authorities are ramping up efforts to prevent waterlogging during the upcoming monsoon season, conducting on-foot inspections of major drains to ensure thorough cleaning and efficient drainage. The Municipal Commissioner, along with other officials, conducted site visits to assess the progress of the pre-monsoon drain cleaning drive.
A key focus of the inspection was the New Bypass drain, spanning from Beur Mor to Nandlal Chhapra, via Mithapur Sump House and Shri Niwas Tower. The Municipal Commissioner directed immediate removal of silt deposits and prioritized the cleaning of the remaining 1,050 meters of the drain, which had been previously hindered by Metro construction and other obstacles.
Key Findings and Directives:
New Capital Zone:
- Construction Waste: Numerous sites were found with construction and demolition (CND) waste, prompting orders for immediate removal.
- Dilapidated Urinals: Dilapidated urinals near Pulwa 2 and Pulwa 3 were marked for demolition.
- Garbage Accumulation: Garbage accumulation on the Mithapur route was identified and immediate clearance was ordered.
- Sanitation Worker Accountability: Four sanitation workers were asked to provide explanations for neglecting their duties.
Kankarbagh Zone:
- Metro Construction Impact: Metro pillar casting and construction near Kamla Utsav Hall have blocked the eastern open drain. Metro representatives were instructed to install Hume pipes to restore water flow.
- Drain Diversion Issues: Issues with a Hume pipe installed at Jagdamba Tiles for drain diversion were identified, requiring resolution by Metro Rail Corporation and Budko engineers.
- Silt Removal and Cleaning: While cleaning had been conducted from pillar number 81 to Ramlakhan Path, immediate silt removal and completion of cleaning up to pillar 81 were ordered.
- Electric Pole Obstruction: High-tension electric poles obstructing the drain near Ramakrishna Nagar Metro Station were identified for removal, with coordination required from electrical engineers.
- Metro-Blocked Drainage: Approximately 100 meters of drain cleaning near 90 Feet Road remains incomplete due to Metro construction.
- Clogged Drain Outlets: Blocked drainage outlets near Nandlal Chhapra were found, requiring manual clearance.
- Box Drain Reconstruction: The Metro Rail Corporation was directed to reconstruct a demolished box drain between Aryabhatta Vishwavidyalaya and Maulana Mazharul Haq, which has disrupted drainage in Kankarbagh’s Wards 29, 30, and 32.
