Pollution Certificates to Be Denied Without Updated Mobile Numbers, Deadline Set for March 31

Patna : Vehicle owners across Bihar, including Patna, have until March 31, to update their Aadhaar-linked mobile numbers in their vehicle registration records. Failure to do so will result in pollution and fitness certificates being withheld, the Transport Department has announced.

Data reveals that from 2014 to January 2025, around 2.4 million vehicles in the state have not had their mobile numbers updated in the registration database. Beyond the March deadline, owners seeking to update their mobile numbers will also be subject to a fine.

To streamline the process, the Transport Department plans to introduce changes to its software, ensuring that pollution and fitness certificates can only be issued once the Aadhaar-linked mobile number is verified in the vehicle registration certificate and driving license. Since September 2024, over 32,000 people have already updated their mobile numbers.

Why Updating Mobile Numbers Matters

The absence of an Aadhaar-linked mobile number has led to challenges in identifying vehicle owners and drivers, especially in the event of accidents. It also hampers the delivery of e-challan notifications for traffic violations, further complicating the enforcement of traffic regulations.

How to Update Mobile Numbers

Vehicle owners can update their mobile numbers through the Transport Seva portal. The process can be completed conveniently from home by visiting:
