Madhepura: Prashant Kishore, spearheading the Jan Suraj campaign, made a significant announcement during his padayatra in the Gamharia block of Madhepura. Speaking to a public gathering at Kaudihar Vidyalay Tarawe after a day’s journey, Kishore declared that from the first month of the Jan Suraj government formation in November 2025, every elderly person in Bihar will receive a monthly pension of Rs 2000.
Kishore, who has dedicated the past 18 months to this padayatra, shared his vision for Bihar’s future. He assured the residents that whether infrastructure like drains and streets are built or not, within a year, employment opportunities will be created within Bihar itself. This initiative aims to bring back family members who have migrated for work, ensuring they find jobs locally.
Criticizing the current government, Kishore highlighted the inadequacy of the Rs 400 pension provided by Nitish Kumar’s administration, which he described as a meager amount given the state’s Rs 2.5 lakh crore treasury. He promised that under the Jan Suraj campaign’s second resolution, this amount would be increased to Rs 2000, providing better financial support for the elderly.
Kishore emphasized that this new pension scheme is designed to ensure that senior citizens live with dignity and do not have to beg for assistance. He reiterated that this policy would be implemented immediately from November 2025, marking a substantial shift in support for Bihar’s elderly population.
