President Murmu Attends Patna Medical College Centenary, Calls for Bihar to Become a Medical Hub

Patna: President Droupadi Murmu attended the centenary celebrations of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in Patna on Tuesday, hailing the institution’s legacy while emphasizing the need for Bihar to emerge as a hub for advanced medical care.
Addressing the gathering, President Murmu described PMCH as one of Bihar’s most invaluable institutions, with a history of blending tradition with modernity. She recalled that the college was once among Asia’s premier hospitals and commended its alumni for earning recognition both in India and abroad through their dedication and service.
Highlighting the challenges posed by patients traveling to other states for treatment, the President stressed the importance of decentralizing medical institutions across the country. She noted that cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Indore have become centers for specialized medical care and urged Bihar to develop similar facilities. Strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure, she said, would not only ensure quality medical treatment for residents but also boost Bihar’s economy. She called on PMCH and its alumni to play an active role in this transformation.
President Murmu also underlined the growing role of technology in healthcare, pointing to advancements in artificial intelligence and robotics that are enhancing precision and efficiency in medical procedures. She urged PMCH to embrace cutting-edge technology to improve patient care and enhance doctors’ expertise.
Reflecting on the multifaceted role of doctors as researchers, educators, and caregivers, she encouraged them to contribute to nation-building by raising awareness about the importance of blood and organ donation.
