Presidential Debate Held at Science College Ahead of Patna University Student Union Elections

Patna: A presidential debate for the Patna University Student Union (PUSU) elections was held at Science College on Thursday, with candidates from various student organisations outlining their visions for the university. The debate saw participation from students, professors, and teaching staff, offering a platform for candidates to present their policies and challenge each other’s claims.

Candidates contesting for the post of president included Priyanka Kumari (Chhatra RJD), Lakshmi Kumari (AIDSO), Hrithik Roshan (DISHA), Manoranjan Raja (NSUI), Vishwajeet Kumar (AISA), Maithili Mrinalini (ABVP), and Dheeraj Kumar (Independent).

Key Issues and Promises

The debate focused on pressing issues faced by students, with candidates pledging to prioritise timely examinations and results. The need for better hostel facilities was also a major talking point.

Concerns over campus security, particularly for female students, were raised, with candidates advocating for enhanced safety measures. Improving bus services, clean drinking water, library access, and other basic facilities in college campuses emerged as common promises. Several candidates also called for increased scholarships and financial assistance for economically weaker students.

Voting Set for March 29

With voting scheduled for March 29, campaigning officially ended at 4 pm on Thursday. Over the past few weeks, student organisations had been actively canvassing across Patna University colleges.

Candidates who effectively articulated their policies during the debate are now expected to gain significant student support as the university heads towards election day.
