Prime Minister Modi Visits Historic Nalanda University Ruins
Nalanda: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the ruins of Nalanda University this morning, where he was taken on a guided tour of the ancient site, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The tour was led by Goutami Bhattacharya, the superintending archaeologist of the Patna circle of the Archaeological Survey of India.
The atmosphere at the ruins was a blend of reverence and heightened security. Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel were visibly present, ensuring the safety of the Prime Minister and other dignitaries. The historical significance of the site was palpable, with visitors and officials reflecting on the grandeur of the ancient university, which once attracted scholars from across Asia.
Nalanda University, established in the 5th century during the Gupta Empire, was a renowned centre for learning until it was destroyed in the 12th century. It was famed for its massive library and attracted students from as far as Tibet, China, Korea, and Central Asia. Its revival as a modern university symbolizes India’s dedication to education and cultural heritage.
Prime Minister Modi is set to inaugurate the new campus of Nalanda University at Rajgir shortly. “It’s a very special day for our education sector. At around 10:30 AM today, the new campus of Nalanda University will be inaugurated at Rajgir. Nalanda has a strong connection with our glorious past. This university will surely go a long way in catering to the educational needs of the youth,” PM Modi posted on X, formerly Twitter, earlier this morning.
