Rahul Gandhi Accused of Spreading Anarchy in UP, Stopped at Border by Police

Patna: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of attempting to spread anarchy in Uttar Pradesh after he was stopped at the state border on his way to Sambhal on Wednesday. Chaudhary questioned why Gandhi was travelling to the state despite a ban on political activities in place until 10 December.

Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by Priyanka Gandhi, was en route to Sambhal to meet the families of those killed in recent violence. However, the Uttar Pradesh Police stopped their convoy at the Ghazipur border, leading to a massive traffic jam on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway that lasted for four hours and caused significant inconvenience to commuters. Frustrated by the gridlock, some individuals clashed with Congress workers.

The Deputy CM accused Rahul Gandhi and the Samajwadi Party of trying to create unrest in Uttar Pradesh. He criticised Gandhi’s actions as irresponsible, given the government’s directive to suspend political activities temporarily.

Addressing the media while standing on top of a car with a copy of the Constitution in hand, Rahul Gandhi stated that he was willing to travel alone in a police vehicle but was not allowed to proceed. After the standoff, Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi returned to Delhi, with Rahul announcing that they would visit Sambhal on 6 December instead.
