Raid At JD(U) Leader’s Brother’s House Uncovers 8 Foreign Weapons And 967 Cartridges

Nalanda/Patna: In a major arms bust on May 28, police in Nalanda, Bihar, raided the residence of Akbar Malik—brother of Janata Dal (United) leader Babar Malik—seizing eight firearms and 967 live cartridges, some of them foreign-made. The raid, conducted in the Baiganabad locality, was carried out by a special police team following intelligence inputs about illegal arms trading.

Among the recovered items were revolvers manufactured in England and Taiwan, along with various rifles and both single and double-barrel guns. Authorities also seized explosive CO2 capsules, a baton rod, and mobile phones. The estimated value of the cache is between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 35 lakh.

While Akbar Malik attempted to flee, police arrested him within the locality. His brother Babar Malik remains at large.
Nalanda Superintendent of Police Bharat Soni confirmed that Akbar has a longstanding criminal record, with eight cases registered against him across several police stations, the earliest dating back to 2012. He has previously served jail time in connection with arms trading.

According to investigators, Akbar sourced foreign weapons via Nepal with the help of cross-border smugglers and sold counterfeit arms manufactured in Munger, falsely branded as imported.

This raid follows another joint operation on April 1, when Nalanda Police and the Special Task Force arrested five members of a land mafia and arms smuggling syndicate, including gang leader Kishan Singh.

Police are continuing their search for Babar Malik and expanding their probe into the broader arms smuggling network that stretches across state and national borders.
