Rain, Hailstorm Likely in North and East Bihar as IMD Issues Yellow Alert

Patna: Several districts in Bihar are bracing for unseasonal rain, hailstorms and gusty winds over the coming days, as April begins with a shift in weather conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for parts of north and east Bihar, warning of adverse weather from April 10 to 13.

Districts including Kishanganj, Araria, Purnia and Supaul are expected to witness rainfall accompanied by hail and thunder, with wind speeds reaching 40–50 kmph. Similar conditions, including thunderstorms and lightning, are also likely in Patna, Madhepura, Jamui, Khagaria, Jehanabad and Banka.

The IMD has further forecast heavy rainfall in eight districts, though it has not specified which. The weather shift is expected to bring respite from the ongoing heatwave, with a dip in temperatures across affected areas.

However, the weather is predicted to remain largely stable in parts of west Bihar, including Kaimur, Rohtas, Buxar, Bhojpur and Aurangabad, where no warning has been issued.

In light of the forecast, district administrations have been asked to remain vigilant. The IMD has instructed local authorities to prepare for emergency relief and rescue operations if needed.

To ensure public awareness, officials have been advised to utilise public announcements, local miking systems, and social media platforms, particularly at the panchayat and block levels in rural areas.
