Muzaffarpur: A brutal robbery and murder took place at Flipkart’s warehouse in Muzaffarpur on Sunday night when a group of nine criminals, armed with weapons, stormed the facility and held 19 staff members hostage at gunpoint. In a swift operation lasting only eight minutes, the robbers looted nearly Rs 4.95 lakh before escalating the violence and shooting an employee in cold blood.

The incident took place around 9 PM at Flipkart’s office in the Khabra area of the Sadar police station jurisdiction. The attackers, who arrived on three motorcycles, intimidated the workers into surrendering the cash. “The robbers divided into smaller groups and forced the employees into a room. They took control of the office and beat up several workers, some of whom suffered injuries from the butt of the weapons,” said Rajeev Kumar, a Flipkart staff member.

During the robbery, the office alarm went off, triggering the assailants’ fury. In a fit of rage, one of the criminals shot 45-year-old Prabhat Kumar Mishra, a worker at the cash counter, killing him instantly. The gang fled the scene, brandishing their firearms, and made their escape, heading toward the Madhaul four-lane road.

The victim, Prabhat Kumar Mishra, hailed from Silaut village in the Maniyari police station area. Despite attempts to save him at a private hospital in Bairia, Mishra succumbed to his injuries. The entire ordeal, which spanned just eight minutes, left the entire warehouse shaken.

As soon as the authorities were informed of the crime, senior police officers including SSP Sushil Kumar, City SP, SDPO Town 2 Vinita Sinha, and Sadar SHO Ashmit Kumar rushed to the scene. The crime scene was promptly investigated by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team. “The criminals were captured on CCTV at multiple locations, although their faces are mostly covered. A few faces are visible, and we are working to identify them,” said SSP Sushil Kumar.

The criminals, who communicated in Bhojpuri, were caught on CCTV footage fleeing the scene on their bikes. The footage shows the registration numbers of the vehicles, aiding the police in their investigation. Authorities believe the suspects meticulously planned the robbery, with each criminal handling a specific task during the heist.

The police are now working on identifying the suspects and making arrests. “We have recovered footage from various CCTV cameras, and we are working diligently to track down all nine criminals. Based on the evidence, we expect to make arrests soon,” added Kumar.
