Rs 13.5 Crore Drainage Pumping Station Planned to Combat Waterlogging in Patna's Patliputra Colony

Patna: A drainage pumping station (DPS) costing Rs 13.50 crore is set to be constructed at Gosain Tola turn in Patliputra Colony, marking a significant step towards resolving the persistent issue of waterlogging in the area.

Patliputra Colony, home to a population of 500,000, experiences severe waterlogging every monsoon, causing widespread inconvenience. To address this, the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (Budko) has devised a comprehensive plan to provide a permanent solution. The project proposal has been submitted to the Urban Development Department and awaits cabinet approval.

A costly, recurring problem

Currently, waterlogging is managed through the annual installation of pumping sets at nine locations in Patliputra during the monsoon season. This temporary measure involves over 100 personnel from Budko and the Municipal Corporation, costing approximately Rs 1.5 crore annually.

The new DPS will replace this makeshift system. It will include a large sump house designed to streamline drainage operations and alleviate the waterlogging issue in Patliputra Colony and its surrounding areas.

Project details and progress

Budko has finalized the plan for the DPS and is optimistic about swift approval from the Urban Development Department. The project’s estimated cost of Rs 13.50 crore covers all infrastructure and operational requirements. Once cabinet approval is secured, work on the DPS will begin.

The move has been widely welcomed as a much-needed solution for a long-standing issue, promising relief to the residents of Patliputra Colony.
