Rumor Causes Rush at CSP Centre in Kaimur, Bihar as Women Seek Rs 1 Lakh Payout

Kaimur: On Saturday, a large number of women gathered at the CSP (Customer Service Point) centre in Kaimur, Bihar, attempting to open bank accounts. When asked for their reason, they stated that they had heard a rumor that Rs 1 lakh would be deposited into their accounts.

This frenzy stemmed from a statement made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during election rallies. Gandhi claimed that the BJP was making 22 billionaires, while the Congress would make millions of women lakhpatis. He promised that Rs 1 lakh would be deposited into the accounts of crores of women, translating to Rs 8,500 per month.

As a result, many women converged on the CSP centre in Mohania block to open accounts. The sudden influx led to a chaotic situation, prompting the police to intervene. Authorities had to persuade the women to return home, though many were initially reluctant to leave.

Ramnani Devi, who traveled from Ramgarh, explained her presence: “Other women told me that Rs 1 lakh would be deposited into our accounts, so I came to open one.” Similar sentiments were echoed by other women, who believed that the government was providing the money to everyone.

Mohania Block Development Officer (BDO) Sanjay Das clarified the situation: “Someone spread a rumor that opening an account would result in receiving Rs 1 lakh. Consequently, women from across the district started coming here. We explained that this is not true and advised them to stay home, especially in this scorching heat. No one should come to the CSP due to this rumor.”

Mohania Councilor representative Ravikant, who witnessed the scene, initially thought the women were part of a group on official business. He soon realized they were there due to the rumor. “After informing the administration, everyone was explained the truth and sent home. The Congress party’s election promise has somehow been misinterpreted, causing unnecessary worry among these women,” he said.
