Rural Women Step Into Entrepreneurship Spotlight at NIFT Workshop in Begusarai

Begusarai/ Patna: Begusarai’s rural women are taking confident steps toward entrepreneurship following a transformative three-day workshop organised by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) at its Begusarai Extension Centre.

The programme, conducted at the NSDC-JEEViKA Didi Training cum Production Centre, brought together 33 women enrolled in the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC)’s initiative. The aim was to bridge the gap between vocational training and entrepreneurship, equipping participants with the tools and mindset to evolve into business-ready producers.

During the workshop, a simulated market exercise saw the Jeevika didis generate a turnover of Rs 4,185 in just a few hours. The exercise offered not only a practical outlet for their newly honed skills, but a glimpse into their potential as micro-entrepreneurs. Facilitators from NIFT noted a visible shift in their confidence and determination.

“The pride on their faces was unmistakable,” said one of the organisers. “This wasn’t just a workshop — it was a transformation in motion.”

The initiative stems from a broader collaboration between NIFT and NSDC, envisioned by Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh. It seeks to blend grassroots skill training with value-added design and enterprise education, enabling rural women to position themselves not just as skilled labourers but as emerging business leaders.

Officials say the programme is part of a larger strategy to ensure that talent nurtured in villages finds pathways into sustainable livelihoods, with support from government institutions and market-facing training models.
