New Delhi: In a significant development during the national executive meeting of the Janata Dal (United), party’s Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Jha was appointed as the party’s national working president. The proposal for this appointment was brought forward by none other than Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar himself. Following the meeting, Ashok Chaudhary stated that Jha will be tasked with managing the alliance with the BJP.

On becoming party’s national executive president, Jha said, “Our leader and our national president, CM Nitish Kumar has given me a huge responsibility. The two-day national executive meeting concluded with a decision to contest the Bihar assembly elections in 2025 under Nitish’s leadership. Additionally, the party resolved to field a candidate in the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections later this year.

The JD (U) has seen notable changes in its leadership across three consecutive national executive meetings. In December 2020, Nitish handed over the party’s reins for the first time, appointing RCP Singh as the National President of JD (U). Subsequently, in July 2021, Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh was appointed the national president. Most recently, in December 2023, Nitish reassumed the party’s leadership by replacing Singh.
