Schools in Patna Closed Till January 23 Due to Severe Cold Wave
Patna: The Patna district administration has ordered the closure of schools up to Class VIII in both government and private institutions until January 23 due to the severe cold wave gripping the region. The decision was announced by District Magistrate Dr Chandrashekhar Singh to protect children from the harsh weather conditions.
Dense fog and westerly winds have intensified the cold across Bihar, prompting similar school closures in districts like Gopalganj and Motihari. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for fog in 29 districts, forecasting light fog in several areas for the next three days with no significant relief expected.
Muzaffarpur recorded the worst air quality index in the state at 271, while Rohtas experienced the coldest temperature at 6.0 degrees Celsius. In contrast, Kishanganj was the warmest district with a maximum temperature of 25.0 degrees Celsius. The cold weather has led to an increase in respiratory illnesses among children, including cases of pneumonia, diarrhea, and colds.
Classes IX and above will continue from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM with necessary precautions, and board exam-related activities are exempt from the restrictions. The order remains effective until January 23, ensuring student safety amid the ongoing cold wave.
