Patna : Government schools in Patna will remain closed on April 22 to allow students to witness an aerial display by the Indian Air Force’s Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team and the Akashganga skydiving unit, ahead of a major state function marking the birth anniversary of Babu Veer Kunwar Singh.

The main event is scheduled for April 23 and will be held along JP Ganga Path. On the day, all shops along the stretch will remain closed as part of security and logistical preparations.

The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting chaired by Bihar Chief Secretary Amritlal Meena on Thursday. The meeting, held to finalise preparations for the event, also included officials from civil aviation, representatives of the Air Force, and district magistrates from Patna, Vaishali, Saran and Siwan. Former Civil Aviation Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Civil Aviation Director Nilesh Ramchandra Devre were also present, with some participants joining via video conferencing.

According to Rudy, the aerial route will be inspected on April 21, with rehearsals scheduled for April 22— aimed specifically at giving schoolchildren a chance to witness the spectacle.

The government has designated the event as a state function. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is expected to attend, along with senior Air Force officials.

Beyond showcasing the capabilities of the Indian Air Force, organisers say the display is intended to celebrate the legacy of Babu Veer Kunwar Singh — a 19th-century freedom fighter known for his role in the 1857 rebellion — and highlight Bihar’s historic contributions to India’s struggle for independence.
