Patna : The Patna High Court has directed the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) to submit a detailed response within four weeks over the deteriorating state of roads in the southern part of the city.

Justice Alok Kumar Sinha, presiding over a single-judge bench, issued the directive on Thursday while hearing a public interest litigation filed by advocate Mayuri, who raised concerns about chronic infrastructure neglect in South Patna.

“While there is talk of transforming Patna into a smart city, large parts of South Patna continue to lack even basic infrastructure such as functional roads and drainage,” Mayuri told the court. She cited Vrindavan Colony in Ward 13 as an example, highlighting that tenders for road construction were floated as far back as 2020–21, but the work remains incomplete.

The petition underscored that despite an official directive to begin construction within a month of filing a complaint, the project was stalled for over a year before any progress was made.

In its response, the PMC attributed the delay to a shortage of funds since 2020. However, the court reminded the municipal body that ensuring basic civic infrastructure—including roads—is its statutory responsibility.

Residents of the affected areas say they have been left to suffer the consequences of bureaucratic inaction, navigating crumbling streets and inadequate drainage systems for years.
