Special Meeting in Patna Ensures Identity Cards and Rights for Transgender Community

Patna: A special meeting was held at Vikas Bhawan under the chairmanship of Deputy Development Commissioner, Patna, Sameer Saurabh, as directed by District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh. The meeting focused on the empowerment of the transgender community under the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019. During the program, identity cards and certificates were distributed to transgender persons to affirm their rights and identities.

Assistant Director of the District Child Protection Unit, Uday Kumar Jha, welcomed the attendees and explained the significance of the initiative. He highlighted that the Act ensures equal rights for transgender persons based on their self-perceived gender identity and prescribes penalties for violations such as depriving them of education, employment, or property rights.

Certificates were distributed under Articles 6 and 7 of the Act, granting legal recognition to transgender persons. A total of 150 individuals received identity cards and certificates, which have also been uploaded to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment’s portal. Members of the transgender community expressed gratitude and praised the district administration for its efforts.

Deputy Development Commissioner Sameer Saurabh emphasized that the initiative aims to secure equal rights for transgender persons and promote inclusiveness in society. He stressed the importance of awareness campaigns to empower more transgender individuals to assert their identity.

The district administration views this effort as a milestone in fostering social harmony and ensuring respect and equality for all citizens. The initiative is expected to significantly contribute to the social, economic, and educational empowerment of the transgender community in the region.
