Patna: A tragic road accident in Jagdevpath, Muralichak under the Airport police station limits claimed the lives of three people, including a couple on a bike. The incident occurred when a Safari SUV (BR 06 PC 6977), reportedly speeding at over 80 km/h, ran over the couple and later crashed into an auto-rickshaw while attempting to flee. The incident took place around 9 pm on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Ashok Kumar and his wife Pushpa Devi, residents of Muralichak, and a passenger in the auto. Ashok Kumar owned a hardware shop in Valmichak, and the couple was returning home when the accident occurred. They are survived by a son and a daughter.

The impact left multiple people injured, including Biru Kumar, Shaesta Parveen, and Sunil Kumar, who were in the auto. Biru Kumar, a resident of Phulwari, suffered severe leg fractures. All injured individuals were rushed to IGIMS (Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences) for treatment.

MP Pappu Yadav Rescues Injured

Coincidentally, Purnia MP Pappu Yadav was passing through the area when he witnessed the aftermath of the accident. Without hesitation, he broke the body of the auto with his foot to free the trapped passengers and personally ensured that five injured victims were taken to IGIMS.

However, upon reaching the hospital, Yadav expressed anger over the apparent lack of medical staff. He demanded the presence of Medical Superintendent Manish Mandal, questioning why no doctors were available to assist the injured immediately.

How the Accident Happened

According to eyewitnesses, the SUV was coming from Phulwari and overtaking a bus near Muralichak when it hit the couple’s bike from behind. The impact threw the couple onto the road before the SUV rammed into an auto-rickshaw. The husband and wife died on the spot, trapped between the SUV and the auto. The vehicle is reportedly registered to Jagat Paswan alias Jagan Paswan.

Bystanders Focused on Filming, Not Helping

MP Pappu Yadav condemned the apathy of onlookers, stating that people were busy recording videos instead of assisting the victims. He described the scene as heartbreaking, with the injured writhing in pain and bleeding on the road, yet no one stepped forward to help.

“This is a shameful reality of our society. Instead of rushing to aid the injured, people were making videos. Are we becoming mere spectators to such tragedies?” he questioned.

Concerns Over Liquor Ban and Road Safety

Yadav also took the opportunity to highlight the alleged failure of Bihar’s liquor ban, stating that reckless, intoxicated drivers continue to pose a deadly risk on the roads.

“This accident is not just a tragedy; it is a reflection of our flawed system and society’s insensitivity. Will we continue to be silent spectators? Tomorrow, this could happen to your loved ones,” he said, urging stricter enforcement of road safety regulations.
