
Patna: The Additional Chief Secretary of Bihar’s Home Department, Arvind Kumar Chaudhary, has called for the expedited settlement of long-pending legal cases across districts, emphasising that delays in justice delivery must be urgently addressed.
In a comprehensive video conference review, Chaudhary assessed the progress of prosecution and legal procedures across all districts under the Patna and Purnia divisions. He directed district officials to prioritise older cases and ensure swift action at the local level to improve the overall efficiency of the justice system.
Data presented during the meeting revealed that in May alone, 13,652 summons were issued across the reviewed districts. In addition, 6,540 bailable warrants, 8,753 non-bailable warrants, 2,078 advertisements, and 1,328 attachments were executed. Courts across the state recorded testimonies from 6,033 witnesses, reflecting intensified prosecution efforts.
The meeting also highlighted digital registration figures, with 8,911 new cases filed on the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) in May. Including prior backlogs, a total of 12,362 cases were executed during the month.
A number of senior officials attended the review, including Pranav Kumar, Secretary of the Home Department; Chandrashekhar Vidyarthi, Superintendent of Police; Rajneesh Singh, Commissioner-cum-Inspector General (Excise, Prohibition, and Registration); Sudhanshu Kumar Choubey, Director of the Prosecution Directorate; and Rajiv Kumar, Under Secretary and Legal Advisor of the Law Department. Also present were senior officers from all districts, including SSPs, SDOs (Law), Public Prosecutors, DPOs, and Excise Superintendents.
The review aimed to streamline coordination among departments and reinforce accountability in handling criminal cases at the district level.
