SpiceJet Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Patna After Bird Strike
Patna: A SpiceJet flight traveling from Delhi to Shillong made an emergency landing at Patna’s Jaya Prakash Narayan International Airport on Monday morning after a bird strike caused a crack in the cockpit windshield. All 80 passengers on board flight SG-2950 were reported safe.
The flight departed from Delhi at 7.03 am and was scheduled to arrive in Shillong at 10.02 am. While passing through Patna airspace, the pilot noticed the windshield crack and immediately alerted air traffic control, requesting permission for an emergency landing. The aircraft landed safely at 8.52 am.
Passengers endured a wait of over two hours at the airport before being transferred to a hotel in Patna. Speaking to local media, passenger Devashish Chakraborty described the moments leading up to the emergency landing: “The flight was shaking, and it became clear something had gone wrong. We are now being moved to a hotel.”
Another passenger, Shweta, shared her experience: “I was traveling to Guwahati when the windshield cracked due to a bird hit. The airline informed us during the flight, and an emergency landing was made in Patna. We’re waiting for further updates on travel arrangements.”
Nitendra Mittal, a Jaipur resident, recounted, “We were informed mid-air about the cracked windshield. Thankfully, the landing was smooth, and everyone is safe. We’re now being accommodated at a hotel.”
SpiceJet officials confirmed that the aircraft’s windshield is being replaced, with the spare part being sent from Mumbai. Passengers will be notified of the revised flight schedule once repairs are completed.
