Patna: Patna’s Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya Sharma said that police personnel did not sleep through the night as they worked to solve the murder case of businessman Gopal Khemka. The investigation was underway while Muharram processions were being carried out across the city, posing an added challenge for the force.
“Police worked all night to maintain peace during Muharram and simultaneously cracked this case. Patna Police has proved that if they want, they will take the criminal to the right place,” Kartikeya said.
During the investigation, police traced arms supplier Vikas, also known as Raja, who was killed in an encounter. Kartikeya said Vikas had previously been involved in multiple murders, robberies and weapon supply cases. Police recovered the weapon he had hidden, but he fired at officers while fleeing. In retaliatory action, he was shot and later died in hospital.
The SSP added that all those involved in the murder, including those who financed and supplied arms for the crime, have been identified. Some arrests have been made while action is ongoing against others. According to police, the contract for killing Khemka was worth Rs 3,50,000.
Kartikeya emphasised that despite the intense work required to ensure peaceful Muharram processions, the police maintained focus on the murder investigation and solved it swiftly.
