Patna: Jewellery and cash worth more than Rs 10 lakh were stolen from two houses in Patna’s Gardnibagh area early on Sunday. The thefts took place after 2 am at the homes of Chaudhary Rai and his neighbour, known locally as Manager Sahab, on New Alkapuri Road No. 16.
According to Rai, a retired energy department employee originally from Samastipur, he heard a knocking sound around 2 am but assumed it was a family member and ignored it. His daughter woke up when the thief entered her room. She called out to her father, prompting the thief to flee. Before escaping, the thief locked the main gate from outside.
Rai called his tenant and neighbours to open the door. Upon inspecting the house, he found the locker broken, with jewellery worth around Rs 4 lakh and Rs 1 lakh in cash missing.
A similar theft occurred at Manager Sahab’s house, where jewellery and ornaments worth several lakhs were also stolen. Rai alleged that drug addicts who roam near a local petrol pump were likely behind the thefts. Both victims have filed complaints with Gardnibagh police, who have begun investigating.
