Patna: Two prominent figures from the Bhojpuri entertainment industry—singer Anupama Yadav and actress Akshara Singh—are facing legal trouble as separate fraud complaints have been lodged against them in Bihar.

In the first case, a complaint has been filed against Anupama Yadav by Mahavir Sah, a District Council member from Karghar East, at the Dharmapura police station in Rohtas. Yadav was allegedly booked to perform at a Hanuman Jayanti programme in Dharmapura village, with an agreed fee of Rs 1.5 lakh. According to the complaint, her agent initially accepted Rs 36,000 as advance, followed by Rs 25,000 taken by Yadav herself. Despite high-profile guests including Bihar minister Kedar Gupta, former minister Jaikumar Singh, and MLC Radhacharan Seth attending the event, Yadav failed to appear and has not returned the payment.

The case has been registered under Case No. 48/2025, and police have begun their investigation. Yadav, a noted Bhojpuri singer with a strong fan base, has lent her voice to numerous films and albums and was recently seen campaigning with actor-singer Pawan Singh during the Lok Sabha elections.

Meanwhile, Akshara Singh, one of Bhojpuri cinema’s most recognisable faces, has also landed in controversy over an event in Samastipur during Durga Puja in 2023. The actress was reportedly paid Rs 5 lakh to perform for three hours but left after just 30 minutes, allegedly upset that members of the audience threw money at her during the show.

Despite efforts by organisers to pacify her, Singh left the venue and reportedly refused to return the performance fee. In connection with this incident, Begusarai-based folk singer Shivesh Mishra filed a petition in the Begusarai court last year. The court has since taken cognisance and issued summons to both Akshara Singh and her father.

Akshara Singh, known for her powerful screen presence and massive following across social media, has previously courted controversy but remains a dominant force in the Bhojpuri film industry.
