transport Department Launches Sticker Campaign for Senior Citizens’ Road Safety in Bihar

Patna: State Transport Department in Bihar has introduced a unique initiative to enhance road safety for senior citizens. Special stickers bearing the message “Keep patience, drivers are senior citizens. Caution is safety” will be placed on vehicles driven by senior citizens. This step aims to encourage awareness and caution among other drivers, reducing road accidents and ensuring safer driving conditions for elderly individuals.

The decision came after a group of senior citizens requested the Transport Secretary to introduce a distinctive sticker for their vehicles. Responding to their appeal, the department approved the initiative in the interest of public safety. According to the Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, these stickers will help other drivers identify senior citizens on the road, promoting patience and respectful behavior, thereby minimizing risks of accidents.

In 2023, the state reported 514 fatalities and 262 injuries involving individuals over 60 years of age in road accidents. These figures include drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. The Transport Department believes this initiative will help address the challenges faced by senior citizens, such as excessive honking and aggressive overtaking, creating a safer and more respectful environment for them.

As part of the ongoing Road Safety Month, the Transport Department has launched a special campaign to distribute these stickers to senior citizens. Additionally, drivers can print and place the stickers on their vehicles independently. The department has also urged the public to avoid unnecessary honking and practice safe driving to contribute to a more secure and considerate road environment for all.
