Ara: A young student in Bihar’s Ara city took his own life on Tuesday after a confrontation with his father over suspected online betting activities. The incident occurred near Jain College in the Nawada police station area, where the youth had been residing.
According to police and family sources, the 20-year-old had recently learned how to place bets on IPL cricket matches using his mobile phone. He had reportedly suffered multiple financial losses, which had caused ongoing tension at home. On Tuesday evening, after returning from an outing with friends, a verbal altercation took place between him and his father. Family members said the father had issued a stern warning that he would be disowned if he didn’t give up the practice.
Later that night, the student reportedly locked himself in his room and hanged himself. When he did not respond to repeated calls, family members peered through the window and found him hanging. He was rushed to Ara Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The deceased was the eldest son in the family. The tragic loss has left his parents and younger sibling in a state of shock. Local police have registered the case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
Authorities are urging families to remain vigilant and seek help in cases of suspected online addiction or psychological stress among youths.
