Supreme Court to Hear Plea on BPSC 70th Preliminary Exam Cancellation on January 7
Patna: The controversy surrounding the cancellation of the BPSC 70th Preliminary Exam has escalated with the matter now reaching the Supreme Court. A petition has been filed demanding the cancellation of the entire exam and seeking action against officials involved in the alleged police brutality against protesting candidates.
The petition, filed by Anand Legal and Forum Trust, alleges widespread irregularities during the examination process. It seeks a CBI investigation into the matter, headed by a retired Supreme Court judge.
The Supreme Court Registry has reportedly assured the petitioner that the petition will be listed for hearing on January 7.
The BPSC 70th exam has been plagued by controversies since its inception. The notification for the exam was revised multiple times, leading to confusion among candidates. The exam date was also postponed several times.
The situation further deteriorated with protests by candidates against the proposed normalization process. These protests were met with police action, including lathicharge and the arrest of student leaders like Dilip.
The examination itself was marred by irregularities at the Bapu Center in Patna, where candidates alleged late delivery of question papers and disruptions by unruly elements. The situation escalated further when Patna DM Dr Chandrashekhar Singh slapped a protesting candidate.
Following these incidents, the BPSC canceled the exam at the Bapu Center, but candidates demanded the cancellation of the entire exam, citing concerns about fairness and transparency.
The controversy has raised serious questions about the conduct of the BPSC and the treatment of aspiring civil servants. The outcome of the Supreme Court hearing will have a significant impact on the future of the 70th BPSC exam and the careers of thousands of aspiring candidates.
