Patna’s Young Innovators Win Big at Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow with Game-Changing Arsenic Removal Tech

Patna: Team METAL from IIT Patna and MIT Manipal has been named the Environment Champion in Samsung India’s Solve for Tomorrow 2024, a national education and innovation competition. The team secured a Rs 50 lakh incubation grant at IIT Delhi for developing a groundbreaking technology to remove arsenic from groundwater—an issue affecting several regions across India.
The competition, now in its third edition, encourages young innovators to address pressing challenges in sustainability, health, education, and technology. Team METAL’s solution aims to significantly improve public health and environmental safety.
The winning team comprises Abhijeet Kumar from IIT Patna, along with Arpit Kumar and Shambhavi Sinha, members from other leading institutions. Their project has been supervised by Dr Prolay Das, Professor in the Department of Chemistry, IIT Patna, since 2018.
The award ceremony was attended by JB Park, President and CEO of Samsung Southwest Asia, and Shombi Sharp, UN Resident Coordinator in India, who presented the trophies and certificates to the winners.
Faculty from IIT Patna, including Professor T. N. Singh, Director, Professor A. K. Thakur, Dean, and Dr N. K. Tomar, Associate Dean (Resource), congratulated the team on their achievement. They also acknowledged Samsung’s role in fostering young talent to tackle real-world challenges.
In addition to the grant, the institution received a Smart Display Flip 75”, a Freestyle Projector, and 10 Galaxy Book 4 Pro laptops to support further innovation and social entrepreneurship.
