Patna: In a major step towards strengthening Bihar’s energy self-reliance, Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited has sought approval from the Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission to incorporate certain amendments in the tender for the proposed 3×800 MW thermal power project at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur district.
The amendments have been proposed following suggestions made by prospective bidders during the pre-bid meeting held under the tariff-based competitive bidding framework. With strong interest from potential investors, BSPGCL is actively pursuing regulatory approval to move the process forward.
The project has already received approval from the Bihar Cabinet, and the land acquisition process has been completed. The Union Government had announced an allocation of Rs 21,400 crore for the project in the Union Budget 2024, reinforcing its financial viability and importance. BSPGCL has urged BERC to expedite the approval so that construction work can commence on schedule and contribute to meeting the state’s growing power demand.
