Patna: A black Thar SUV driver allegedly attempted to run down police officers during a routine vehicle check in Patna on Tuesday, in a chilling echo of a similar incident earlier this month that left one officer dead.
The incident took place on Chitkohra Bridge, where traffic police were conducting a routine inspection. According to officials, the driver failed to stop the vehicle despite being signalled by officers on duty. A male and a female constable were reportedly standing in front of the car when the driver accelerated towards them. The officers narrowly escaped harm, and no injuries were reported.
Following the incident, police alerted the control room and launched a search operation. The SUV was last seen heading towards Gardanibagh, but the driver remains at large. Police are currently working to identify the vehicle and trace the suspect.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of law enforcement officers on duty. On June 12, a similar vehicle check in Patna turned fatal when a car struck three officers, killing sub-inspector Komal Kumari and injuring two others.
