Saharsa/Patna: Preparations are underway for the launch of Bihar’s third Amrit Bharat Express, which will connect Saharsa in north-eastern Bihar with Firozpur in Punjab. The train’s rake has already arrived in the state and is currently stationed in Saraigarh, Supaul district, according to railway officials.

This new service marks the second Amrit Bharat train to originate from Saharsa. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to flag off the train, although the exact date of the launch and final route details are yet to be officially confirmed.

Initially, the Saharsa–Firozpur Amrit Bharat Express will operate once a week, given the availability of only one rake. The train will complete a round trip before returning to Saharsa. Railway authorities have indicated that additional rakes could allow for more frequent operations in the future.

The Samastipur division of Indian Railways has begun preparations, including arrangements for washing, maintenance and scheduling of halts at Saharsa station. The train is being readied in Saharsa’s dedicated washing pit facility.

Saharsa previously saw the inauguration of its first Amrit Bharat service in April, connecting the region to Mumbai’s Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. Another Amrit Bharat train is already operational between Darbhanga and Delhi’s Anand Vihar Terminal.

The Amrit Bharat Express is a semi-premium category of train service introduced by Indian Railways to provide faster, affordable and comfortable travel across long distances, especially benefiting passengers from underserved regions.
