Thiyagarajan SM Takes Charge as Patna DM, Vows Top Priority to Public Welfare and Development

Patna: Dr. Thiyagarajan SM today officially assumed charge as the new District Magistrate of Patna, succeeding Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh. In his inaugural address to district officials at the Collectorate, Dr. Thiyagarajan declared that matters of public interest would be his administration’s top priority, with a firm commitment to the swift and successful implementation of developmental and public welfare schemes.
After taking over, Dr. Thiyagarajan was introduced to the district administration team. He expressed confidence in the existing team spirit and emphasized the importance of inter-departmental coordination to effectively complete public interest projects.
Accelerating Key Development Projects
The new District Magistrate highlighted the ongoing progress of approximately 30 development schemes under the Project Monitoring Group in the district. He pledged to ensure their timely execution with uncompromising quality. He specifically noted the 32 development schemes, worth over ₹10,871 crore, announced by the Chief Minister during the Pragati Yatra in Patna district on February 21, 2025. These projects, swiftly approved by the State Government, are already being implemented rapidly, and Dr. Thiyagarajan assured diligent monitoring for timely completion.
In a review meeting with the Deputy Development Commissioner, Sub-Divisional Officers, and other district-level officials, Dr. Thiyagarajan instructed Sub-Divisional Officers to regularly monitor all blocks within their respective areas. He stressed the need to pay close attention to all critical subjects, including revenue, disaster management, supply, and overall development.
Fostering Public Engagement and Efficient Governance

Dr. Thiyagarajan underscored the importance of collaboration, stating that the cooperation and contribution of all stakeholders are crucial for the district’s development. He promised that feedback from the public would be acted upon promptly. Referencing initiatives like the Dr. Ambedkar Samagra Seva Abhiyan, Mahila Samvad, and Nagar Samvad, he affirmed that suggestions from these public dialogue programs would be processed swiftly. The District Magistrate also pledged to ensure the quick execution of applications received at the District Janta Darbar, aiming to live up to the aspirations of the public.
Strengthening Office Culture and Law & Order
The new DM outlined clear directives for internal administration, prioritizing an efficient office culture. He mandated timely attendance of employees through a biometric attendance system and instructed all officers and staff to maintain exemplary behavior towards the common people. Officials were urged to be prompt and committed in ensuring that the benefits of welfare schemes reach their intended beneficiaries, with a focus on timely and quality implementation. Special attention will be given to core public interest areas, including Seven Nischay schemes, Public Grievance Redressal, and Disaster Management. Furthermore, pending land acquisition cases vital for metro, road, and bridge construction will be expedited.
Concluding his address, Dr. Thiyagarajan asserted that there would be no compromise on maintaining law and order. He emphasized that transparency and accountability would be paramount in the administration. He urged all officers to establish strong coordination and meaningful dialogue among themselves to execute public works with utmost sensitivity.
