
New Delhi/ Patna: In a proud moment for Bihar’s entrepreneurial landscape, three start-ups from the state—EY Delta, Lady Fair, and Bhojpatta—were conferred with the Maharathi Award at the central government’s Start-up Maha Kumbh held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Each venture received a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, recognising their innovative contributions across consumer services, agriculture, and advanced technology.
From Rural Parlours to National Platform: Lady Fair’s Impact
Ladyfair Beauty Concepts Private Limited, a Sitamarhi-based start-up founded by Rishi Ranjan Kumar in 2019, was awarded in the Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) category. The company has pioneered doorstep salon services in rural areas, creating employment for over 150 trained women beauticians across 12 cities. Operating with an annual turnover of Rs 36 crore, Ladyfair began from a single rented room and has grown into a national model for digital inclusion and women’s empowerment.
Bhojpatta’s Green Tech Revolution in Agriculture
Bhojpatta Agripreneur Private Limited, established in 2021, was recognised for its work in post-harvest sustainability. The start-up uses solar dryers with zero carbon emissions and natural fibre-based air filters to process agricultural waste, tackling the disposal of an estimated 74 million tonnes annually. With a current turnover of Rs 89 lakh and a core team of 14, Bhojpatta has previously gained attention through recognitions like Organic India 2022, Agri Udaan 5.0, and IIT Kanpur’s SIL 3.0 initiative.
EY Delta Powers Innovation in Defence and Space
In the defence and space innovation category, EY Delta stood out for its work on next-generation electric motors. Specialising in magnetic field optimisation and modular thermal designs, the company has developed motors applicable to drones, robotics, and electric vehicles. With 11 full-time employees and a new Rs 3.5 crore order for 15,000 motors, EY Delta is setting up a dedicated production line to meet demand, positioning itself as a key player in India’s push for self-reliant technology under Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
The awards signal a growing national recognition for Bihar’s emerging start-up ecosystem, where innovation is increasingly rooted in local challenges and scaled with global ambition.
