Alarming Surge in Lightning Strikes Claims 76 Lives in Bihar in 17 Days

Patna: Tragedy struck near Patna Airport as a supervisor lost his life after being struck by lightning. The victim, identified as Navoo Kumar Halda, hailing from West Bengal, was fatally injured in the incident.

The unfortunate event unfolded during ongoing construction activities by Bengaluru-based company Vishal Infrastructure Limited, which was engaged in the construction of a taxi track near the airport runway. Work had come to a halt earlier in the day due to inclement weather, only to resume once the rain subsided. Halda, fulfilling his duties as a supervisor, was inspecting construction materials when lightning struck suddenly, causing severe injuries.

Efforts were swiftly made to transport Halda to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) for urgent medical attention. However, despite medical intervention, doctors at the hospital pronounced him dead.

The incident coincides with a weather alert issued by the Patna Meteorological Centre, warning of storms, heavy rainfall, and lightning across several districts, including Patna. The afternoon saw showers in various areas, including the vicinity of Patna, as forecasted by the meteorological agency.
