Two Businessmen Shot Dead in Patna Within 12 Hours, Protests Erupt
Patna: Two businessmen were killed in separate shooting incidents within 12 hours in Patna, sparking outrage and protests among locals. Both murders, carried out by bike-borne assailants, have raised serious concerns over law and order in the region.
The latest incident occurred late Thursday night in Mojipur village under the jurisdiction of the Nadi police station. Uday Raj (45), an iron rod, sand, and gravel businessman, was shot in the head by miscreants lying in wait near his house. He was returning home on his Bullet motorcycle after closing his shop around 9 PM.
Hearing the gunshot, neighbors rushed to the scene and took him to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries late at night. Enraged by the murder, locals blocked the Patna-Bakhtiyarpur State Highway on Friday morning, demanding immediate action against the perpetrators. The highway remained jammed for over three hours, causing significant inconvenience to commuters.
The victim’s family members are refusing to engage with officials and insist on senior authorities addressing their grievances. SDPO Nikhil Kumar and Station In-charge Rupak Kumar Ambuj, along with a police force, reached the spot to pacify the protesters. Meanwhile, CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to identify the culprits.
Earlier on Thursday morning, another businessman, Rajkishore Singh (64), was shot dead in Fatuha, Patna. The victim, a grocery shopkeeper from Abdullahpur village, was attacked by two bike-borne criminals while at his shop.
He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Police suspect a property dispute as the motive for the murder and have recovered a bullet shell from the crime scene. Rajkishore Singh leaves behind three sons and a daughter.
The back-to-back murders have left locals furious, with the Mojipur protest reflecting the growing frustration over safety concerns. Protesters are demanding swift action to apprehend the killers and prevent such incidents in the future.
Authorities are under pressure to resolve both cases promptly as the families of the victims and local residents demand justice. Meanwhile, the disruption on the Patna-Bakhtiyarpur highway has forced commuters to take alternate routes, adding to the chaos.
