Patna : A fresh round of anger has sparked in the Rajiv Nagar locality after two more individuals were injured when their vehicles fell into an underconstruction drain left uncovered for drain construction on Tuesday. This latest incident, which took place on Rajiv Nagar Road, has reignited frustrations among locals, who continue to hold the construction agency accountable for repeated accidents on the road.

According to eyewitnesses, both a scooter and a motorcycle fell into the pit filled with water. The quick response of local residents ensured that the riders were safely rescued from the dangerous situation. The vehicles were also retrieved, but the incident has highlighted the ongoing safety concerns surrounding the construction zone.

This is not the first such accident in Rajiv Nagar. A week ago, an e-rickshaw plunged into a similar drain, injuring a child who was riding in it. In that case, it was only the timely intervention of local people that prevented further harm to the child, who was later admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

Despite these recurring accidents, residents are accusing the construction agency behind the Namami Gange Project of negligence. The project, which includes pipe-laying work on Road No. 23 in Rajiv Nagar, involves digging numerous pits along the road, leaving them exposed for extended periods.

The Patna Municipal Corporation had earlier fined the contractor responsible for the Namami Gange Project a hefty Rs 5.5 crore after the e-rickshaw accident. However, the lack of corrective measures has raised questions about the effectiveness of such fines in preventing further mishaps.
